I know Beth Kephart, the author of the recently released Nothing But Ghosts, from her blog. And what I know–just from this–is that she is a lovely writer, a wordsmith but more than that, a person of heart, sensitivity, perception and dedication. As a tribute to that, the blogosphere has been rallying around this book, passing along the word.
It’s a story about surviving loss. About a rising high school senior whose mother has died. What lives on? she wonders. How will she? In searching for answers, she becomes embroiled in a mystery surrounding a strange recluse at a lush garden. It’s a mystery, a romance, a daughter-father story.
There is an interview here and a review here.
I haven’t yet read this book–I’m on my way to get it, and it’s on the chart for August, when I’ll be taking some time off with kids and books I can really relish. I know that Beth’s will be one of them. And I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it. I hope you do, too.

Oh gosh, LN. I was on my way here to tell you that I actually did spend today reading — not near the computer, but near a breeze, no client calls, nothing — and I was reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog and I have been crying and crying and for some reason I thought, I have to tell LN about this book.
So I come here, and you have done this. And I thank you.
I’m going to post about The Hedgehog. But right now I can’t. It’s just so perfect.
That’s a wonderful feeling to have about a book. I’m glad you thought of me!
